HEARST ACQUISITION

I am honored to announce that my AR (augmented-reality) work “Kneeling Icon” has been purchased by the Hearst Corporation as an addition to their permanent corporate collection. The work, currently on display at Hearst Tower in Manhattan, includes both a physical component and an AR-triggered audiovisual animation. When the physical piece is viewed with the Artivive AR app, it comes alive as an animation with original sound on the gallery wall.

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK

Kneeling Icon is a 100 x 75 inch digital monoprint on vinyl from my Metagraph series, with an augmented reality animation.  The composition was originally drawn in 2004 using vector-based graphics tools on a drawing tablet.  In 2022 the drawing was developed into an animated audiovisual work with original sound.

This piece combines the physical and digital aspects of the work.  When the physical work is viewed through the Artivive AR app on a mobile device, it comes alive as an animation on the gallery wall, as recorded in the video on this page.

I am very honored to be exhibiting alongside Ai Weiwei at Hearst Tower in Manhattan (photo: Ai Weiwei, Tree #11, tree parts and metal bolts, 2009-2010). His work on display resides in Hearst’s permanent collection. In the accompanying video is my work Kneeling Icon, digital monoprint on vinyl with AR audiovisual layer, 100 x 75 inches, 2004-2022.
