Archival inkjet and acrylic on paper18 × 12 in
Begun in 1994, the Photoconstruct series combines Goldberg’s photographs with painting and drawing. Its subjects are people, places and objects connected to his life. Photographs are printed onto prepared, painted surfaces, allowing their detail to interact with the marks, color and texture beneath them. The process draws on the relationship between imagery and surface explored by Pop artists, using Goldberg’s own photographs and digital printing. The resulting works are paintings and works on paper in which the photographic image and painted surface remain equally present.
