Shodo Works on Paper

About Shodo

The Shodo series combines sumi ink, Japanese paper and digital drawing. Goldberg began working with sumi ink in 2005, influenced by his grandmother, the calligrapher Kimiye Ebisu. His marks form a personal gestural language rather than representations of kanji. Physical ink drawings provide a starting point for digital forms, including three-dimensional structures developed from gestures drawn on a tablet. The New Plastic Shodo works explore computer rendering and modern abstraction within the Shodo series, bringing the movement of ink into digitally constructed space.
