METAGRAPH ANIMATION #15 // This piece is based on the eponymous 1999 vector-based digital drawing, which was one of my father’s favorites. This piece hung in my parents’ house for many years as a large-format digital monoprint on canvas. “Organic Gravity” was originally drawn in Manhattan’s East Village in in 1999, and was an early example from my Metagraph series of digital drawings, works inspired in part by the “automatic drawings” of the Surrealists. The drawing was composed using a Wacom tablet in Illustrator 8 on a PowerMac 8600 and was animated and reborn on the blockchain 23 years later. The original soundscape contains original audio recently recorded not far from my current home and studio in Vermont’s Green Mountain National Forest, combined with other samples arranged in a stream-of-consciousness style pastiche.
